The faint rustling of leaves outside of your window. You clung to your comforter tightly, closing your eyes shut to try to lull yourself back to sleep, but the noises continued to grow louder. Unnerved by the lack of parental guardians and outdated security system, you decided to take matters into your own hands. You quietly uncovered your body, letting your bare feet gently fall to the floor. Swiftly rising from your bed, you dart across your room towards your closet, where your old baseball bat sat.
The aged bat sat in your shaky palms, the peeled foam of the handle let the chilled metal press uncomfortably against your warm skin. Although the bat is quite short, you knew how much damage it could cause from previous experiences, much to your parents’ dismay.
You carefully tiptoe through your empty house, remembering every gruesome detail from every horror movie you had ever seen. Your heart pounding painfully out of your chest as you approaches your door and quietly unlocked it. After carefully assessing the scene, you took a step out the door, allowing yourself to lean against the paneled wall. You peaked around the corner trying to get a better view of the intruder. They had their back to you and with the luminous light in front of them, it was impossible to see anything other than their outline.
Your fingers wrapped tightly around the bat in a ready position. You took a few deep breaths before letting out an ear piercing battle cry. Running towards the stranger, you held the bat above your head.
“Ah!” the intruder shouted, tripping backwards. The phone in their hands fell to the ground, revealing the bright screen.
“What the hell are you doing?” you yelled towards the shadow ready to attack. The darkness was still too prominent for you to make out the details of the person’s face.
“Calm down, (Y/N). It’s just me,” Stiles assured raising his hands in defense. Even through the darkness you could see the dark circles around his eyes and his messy hair.
“Stiles, what are you doing here?” you asked your boyfriend frantically, lowering your weapon. Stiles rose from the ground and dusted his plaid pajama bottoms. He picked up his phone but not before you could see the familiar game screen. “No, you didn’t. Did you really come all this way for that game?”
“Yes, I did. Now if you don’t mind, there’s a Charizard like right behind you, if you could just take a few steps over that would be-”
“Seriously,” you deadpanned. “It’s 2:00 in the morning.”
“Pokemon waits for no man,” Stiles replied simply, looking through his phone. You rolled your eyes and gave into his childish antics. He mumbled something else before furiously flicking at his screen. Your half lidded eyes threatened to close as you waited for him to finish. A shout of happiness erupted from him, making you jump.
“Are you done now?” you questioned with a hand on your hip. The chilly night air caressed you through your thin pajamas, making you shiver.
“Not quite, angel,” Stiles smirked. You raised a brow towards him, waiting for his next move.
“I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was,” Stiles sang loudly and out of tune. It was surprising that your neighbor’s dog weren’t barking like the usually did. “To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause.”
“We have school in the morning, you nerd,” you face palmed. “You’ll wake my neighbors.” But it was useless, there was no stopping him now.
“I will travel across the land, searching–”
“Stiles,” you groaned, rubbing your drowsy eyes, “Go home.” Your command was short lived since Stiles just continued singing the popular theme song.
“Fine, no kiss for you,” you spoke, jogging towards the door. Footsteps immediately followed behind you.
“No, I’ll stop. Please,” he begged, racing towards your side. Stiles looked into your eyes with an irresistible pout. You rolled your eyes and gave him a short peck on on the lips before running the rest of the way inside. You could hear Stiles whining about your “excuse of a kiss”, but you were too tired to deal with him at this point.
Even after you returned to your bed you could faintly hear Stiles singing “Gotta catch’em all”, making you smile.
